NDE Details:
Experiencer: Joshua H, an adult male from the United States.
Religious Background (Prior To NDE): Raised Protestant Christian, but renounced organized religion in his mid-twenties, becoming unaffiliated and Agnostic.
NDE Cause: Allergic reaction to sedatives during kidney stone procedure, which led to cardiac arrest (heart stops beating, blood stops circulating, breathing stops, brain shuts down) and flatlining (heart’s electrical activity stops) for 8 minutes.
NDE Summary: He left his physical body (OBE) then was “floating through space.” He then experienced a profound “oneness with all existence,” where all “past, present, and future” was happening at once. This evoked feelings of “love” which bounded everything together, and an “acceptance” that nothing was out of place. He also felt like he was “home,” to the place where he existed “before birth,” and “the place to which we all return.” In the end, he experienced “colors unlike anything in the physical world,” which he described as made of “plasmic energy” that was “alive.”

NDE Report (Edited Excerpts):
NDE Cause — Heart Stops & Flatlines for 8 Minutes, After Allergic Reaction to Sedatives During Kidney Stone Surgery
This experience happened during a medical procedure for a large kidney stone . . My last memory before the event was being wheeled into the operating room, loopy from the IV sedative I had been given. My next memory was brief but vivid: I woke to the pain of a needle being passed through my lower back into my kidney to inject dye. I vaguely remember trying to strike the urologist. Stronger anesthetics were administered, but I had an anaphylactic reaction [allergic reaction] that led to cardiac arrest [heart stopping] and asystole [flatlining] for about eight minutes.
Out of Body Experience (OBE)
During this period of asystole [flatlining], I became aware that I was no longer bound to my body. I watched the scene unfold from near the ceiling – my body on the lithotripter, the anesthesiology team working frantically to revive me. Then I realized I could leave the room.
Floating in Dark Space
The instant that realization occurred, I entered what I can only describe as a vast, cosmic realm, so darkness. I felt as though I was floating in space, but it was not ordinary space.
Feels One with Existence +
Feels Part of A Unified Consciousness +
Everything Seems Perfect
I felt a sense of oneness with all there ever was, is, and will be. It was a knowing, an interconnectedness of all life that transcends this physical realm. Everything seemed to be happening at once. [I felt] a profound oneness with all existence across past, present, and future. Language was irrelevant, time did not exist. I was everything and nothing at once – I cannot explain it more clearly than that. I did not see loved ones or beings, but I knew I was once again part of a vast, unified consciousness.
I [also] understood that there is not one grain of sand on any beach on any planet, in any solar system, in any galaxy that is out of place. Everything is exactly as it is supposed to be.
Feels Love +
Feels Peaceful
There was [just] an overwhelming, all-encompassing sensation of love, compassion, peace, and complete acceptance.
I knew instinctively that love was the force binding it all together, not just a feeling but a universal law, a force like gravity.
There was no pain, no fear, no discomfort.
Feels Like Home
I [also] sensed I was home – the place from which I came before birth, and the place to which we all return.
Bright Colors +
Made of Animate Energy
Around me were [also] colors. They were bright, undulating, alive, like plasmic energy.
I recall that they were gorgeous and reminiscent of pinks and blues, but not truly those colors.
These were colors beyond the physical spectrum, impossible to describe. How can I explain colors that do not exist in the physical world? They were unlike anything in the physical world. They were absolutely nothing I have seen in the physical or observable universe. I do not think they are perceptible, at least not to human eyes.
Out of Body Experience (OBE) +
Revived
Suddenly, I was being forced back toward my body. I found myself once again at the ceiling of the operating room, watching the staff restart my heart. I did not choose to return – in fact, I strongly did not want to. But the moment my heart started, I was pulled back into my body…
