Near Death Experiences

Thousands of ordinary people — often with no spiritual intent or prior belief in God — arrive at the edge of death and report the same thing: the same bright light, unconditional love, iridescent colors, and oneness with all of existence. But, the dead or dying are not the only ones who report this experience…
People who take DMT, the most potent psychedelic substance in the world found naturally in the human brain also say this. As well as 🕰️ past-life regression patients who get “regress” to supposed “past-lives” through deep hypnosis and go so far back they claim to return to the very source of reality (”Source”). To even 🛐 mystics from the world religions who repeatedly, as far back as 2,500 years, claim to experience transcending their mind by meditation and achieving oneness with God or the ultimate reality. Heck, even “psychics” who through a method called 👁️‍🗨️remote viewing” developed in once classified US government psychic research programs — receive information on a something as seemingly transcendent as “God.” And, let’s not forget about 👤 entirely ordinary people, who after a difficult experience, or even while just going about their everyday activities, suddenly, for no apparent reason at all, spontaneously have this experience too.
So, now its time to look at the unique angle of this extraordinary experience from the most “far out” point of view — those who are close to, or have even gone past the edge of death, into that great place that we are all treading towards….
In this page, you’ll find 📖 the origin story of how I found these unique near experiences in the first place, 🗃️ a collection of all the experiences I found, 🔍 my analysis of their common themes, and 💀 a brief dive into what having an experience “at the edge of death” even means. What the cool kids and scientists now call, “near-death-experience” (NDE). So, let’s start with that last question first, shall we?
What even is a near death experience (NDE)? Buckle up, because we’re going to review an entire field of research that studied this very same question, but in about 5-15 paragraphs…

💀 What is a Near Death Experience? (NDE)

Near Death Experience (NDE) is kind of what it sounds like — an experience that someone has after a close encounter with death. What is a close encounter with death? Well, Raymond Moody, the philosopher and psychiatrist who originally coined the term “NDE,” and pioneered the entire field of research in his 1975 book, “Life After Life,” classified 3 types of near death encounters. Let’s take a brief look at them…
💀
A NDE is defined, first, by what causes the experience — namely, a close encounter with death! This may be one of 3 near death encounters:
1. Clinical Death — When you stop breathing and your heart stops beating, which is when a doctor, if present, would literally pronounce you “dead” (hence the term “clinical death”). Obviously, these people are brought back in time, which is why they’re able to tell us what they experienced while “on the other side.”
2. Close to (Clinical) Death — When someone suffers a life-threatening accident or illness and come dangerously close to clinical death. Examples are near-drowning, car accidents, getting electrocuted, falling from tall places, allergic reactions, heart-attacks, and more. In many of these cases, the person usually ends up unconscious and that’s when they have their strange experiences at the edge of death.
3. Dying: When someone is on the verge of clinically dying. For example, someone’s last few minutes on their deathbead. They might be in and out of consciousness during this, and report strange experiences to their loved ones or any one who’s there with them.
But, being dead, close to death, or dying is not the only thing that defines having an NDE. In fact, that’s just the cause of the experience! The experience itself is what actually matters…
Raymond Moody originally discovered what some call “the core experience” or “the typical near death experience — after collecting 150 of these death encounters, and finding around 12 common themes that people repeatedly experienced. These have also been refined and expanded by other pioneering researchers like the psychologist, Kenneth Ring, in his 1980 book, “Life At Death,” the first serious scientific study of NDEs (with statistics and all) that analyzed 102 individuals with death encounters, 48% of which reported some of these common themes.
So, what are the common themes of a typical NDE? Let’s take a brief look at some so you get enough context before diving into the NDE themes I discovered for the particular NDE of “source energy.” Keep in mind, these themes don’t occur for every experiencer, and they don’t necessarily occur in this order. In fact, Kenneth’s study found as you go down the list, they occur with less and less frequency — as lower down might mean one is very deep in the typical NDE, and not everyone goes that far.

But, now its time to look into the new NDE themes of an experience, which, as you saw in the beginning, pops up across many different experience paths — not just those involving close encounters with death. It’s an experience that I call that of “love-light-unity” or the experience of “Source Energy.” This will help us see not only see how some of these new common themes tie to the common themes of the “typical NDE,” but how they might reveal a completely new near death experience that also cuts across cultural, religious, temporal, and geographical lines…
So, in the next couple sections, we’ll explore the origin story of how I found this unique near death experience in the first place, then dive into my analysis of its common themes, and in the end, I’ll leave you with the entire collection of each of the individual experience reports, in full, in case you want to explore them and analyze them yourself…

📖 Origin Story How I Found The NDE of “Light-Love-Unity” or “Source Energy” (And How To Find More)

The first NDE story of “Source” I ever found was actually a total synchronicity. I was bored watching the Neftlix Documentary Series, “Surviving Death” in a hotel, after a rafting trip in Mexico. To my suprise, on literally season 1, episode 1, at exactly 33 minutes and 44 seconds (yup! angel numbers!), a woman named Randa Akeia gave a glimpse of her breathtaking NDE. It was the only thing she said in the entire series. She said: “I was a tiny, tiny light, a little tiny speck of light, and then I’d become a great, big light.” As soon as I heard this, I giggled like a mad man and started dancing around the room.
This is usually what I do when I find a what feels like a “fated” connection. What was it? Well, I realized this very brief quote was exactly the same description that the past life regression patients of Dolores Cannon usually give when describing being a “Spark” within “Source Energy.” So, this led me to desperately search for her full experience, which I found on two Youtube videos: a podcast, and an interview. Once again, to my suprise, she described even more common themes I identified across all the mystical experience paths…
I was instantly hooked, and began to search for more NDEs to find more of these similar experiences. That’s when I stumbled upon the NDE Vaults, which are basically repositories of NDE accounts collected by organizations like the Near Death Experience Research Foundation (NDERF), and the International Association for Near Death Studies (IANDS).
In fact, 3 of the experiences in the collection are from these vaults. I literally only looked for 15 minutes and found experiences which were clearly describing the same thing as Randa and the other experience paths — ego-death, the union with a bright light, iridescent sparkly colors, becoming one with all existence, feeling unconditional love and a sense of being home, and much more.
So, as a fun little exercise, at some point, I suggest you jump into any of the NDE vaults and try to find more of these experiences yourself. I can bet that in 5 minutes, you’ll find one. Below are tips on how to do just that. (Please try this at least once! Trust me, it feels awesome finding one of these experiences yourself. You’ll be doing the kind of research I do on the regular!)
Near Death Experience Foundation (NDERF)Search for more stories under the filter “feeling one with the universe” or “see a bright unearthly light;” if you filter for both, there’s over 569 experiences as of July 2026!
The International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS)Search for more stories by filtering for any of the common descriptive themes I’ve identified (“light,” “oneness,” “love,” “colors,” “ego-death”.).
After I began discovering more NDEs, I found the Youtube Channel, “Coming Home which shares NDE stories from the experiencers themselves, in a documentary-style interview format. I found it very fun to listen to or watch these videos whenever I was bored. I’ve only ever watched 3, but once again, to my suprise, 2 of them were exactly like the “source energy” or “light-love-unity” experience! In fact, I actually analyzed 1 of them for the collection, which has one of my favorite descriptions of the oneness with existence (”unity”) common theme. I also suggest checking out this channel to help find more of these experiences!
So, as you can see, there’s still a lot more stories to be added to the collection! I LITERALLY JUST FOUND THESE! This is just the beginning. But, it already tells us of a common experience that many people around the world seem to have when they momentarily “die,” and are “brought back.”
The implication of this is enormous, but all we can do, for now, is continue to collect the puzzle pieces, and hopefully experience some more synchronicities that keep leading us on the right path to understanding “Source.”
But, what are these common themes that I found, and the individual experiences themselves? Well, now it’s time for you to find out…

🔍 Analysis of Common Themes of NDE of “Source Energy” / “Love-Light-Unity”

This is still in the works, I’m still adding descriptions for each stage, and as always the stages will continue to evolve as we collect more NDEs. But, as of now these are the common themes of the experience of source energy or love-light-unity, as it occurs in NDEs, or to people who have momentarily died and been revived, or been close to death…
